Green Named THSCA Basketball Coach of the Year

Beaumont United (BU) High School Boys Head Basketball Coach David Green Jr. became the first recipient of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Basketball Coach of the Year award in a ceremony held Tuesday, May 22, 2023, in the main gymnasium of Beaumont United. THSCA Executive Director Joe Martin presented Green with a plaque before an audience that included Beaumont ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shannon Allen, BU faculty and staff, students and players from the BU boys basketball team who were the State 6A Runner Up this basketball season.

The honor was a surprise for Green, who was teary-eyed as the announcement was made during the end-of-year underclassmen awards program being held during this final week of school. Green, Beaumont United’s first boys head basketball coach, has accomplished several history-making feats in the school’s five-year existence. His 2022-2024 squad was his third group in a row to make it to the state basketball championships after winning back-to-back state championships in Class 5A the two previous seasons.

Coach Green’s record in the last 5 years includes:

  • 101 wins, 3 losses

  • 3 District Championships

  • 3 Regional Championships

  • 3 State Championship appearances

  • 769 wins, 228 loses total

  • 15 District titles

  • 11 Regional Championships

  • 7 State appearances

  • 3 State Titles
