ExxonMobil Kicks off the Quest for Less
For the spring semester, ExxonMobil has started a new sustainability education collaboration with Beaumont ISD to help students learn about waste management and recycling.
Using US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) curriculum, ExxonMobil team members will visit their partner campuses, Pietzch-MacArthur, Amelia and Charlton-Pollard Elementary, to host monthly 45-minute campus visits for second grade students. During this time, they’ll give a brief presentation on a sustainability topic and host a craft activity to reinforce what they learned.
“We’re proud to collaborate with Beaumont ISD to initiate the EPA’s curriculum which provides hands-on activities, enrichment ideas and other educational tools related to preventing and reducing waste,” Andrew Ortiz, ExxonMobil Beaumont Public & Government Affairs advisor, said. “Our youngest neighbors are excited about sustainability and our shared goal is to help these students learn about recycling and other ways to prevent and reduce waste both at school and home.”
The first lesson was held January 31, 2023, on natural resources. Follow-up visits will include discussions on the difference between reusable and disposable products, and how the recycling process works.
ExxonMobil Lamar University College of Engineering interns also joined in to share their experience about studying STEM in college.
