Students Connect to Future Employers at Youth Career Expo

Beaumont ISD high school students attended the ninth annual Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas Youth Career Expo on February 2, 2023, as an introduction to exciting career choices and pathways.

The event kicked off with an orientation to set expectations and provide tips on how to talk to employers. Students were then released to the Ford Park main showroom with 135 exhibitors demonstrating their jobs.

“The expo allowed students to connect with employers and possibly gain future employment opportunities,” said Pamela Wise, Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas Assistant Director of Communications. “They met face-to-face and participated in hands-on experiences to see what skills would be needed for specific careers.”

This year, to encourage students to connect to numerous employers, they were given a BINGO card. When they visited an employer, they would ask a question to get a stamp on the card.

“The BINGO card was a great tool to encourage interaction and ensure students learned about occupations,” said Wise.

Close to 4000 students across southeast Texas attended throughout the day, including Beaumont United, Early College and West Brook High School.

“The expo was also a great networking event for business owners and teachers to set up future career days on their campus,” said Wise.

The expo is part of the Salute to Workforce Month with Beaumont ISD, Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas and the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. Events held during February each year help promote the current workforce and showcase Southeast Texas’ efforts in continuing to build a strong talent pipeline for years to come.

BISD will host the College, Career and Military Readiness Fair on February 25, 2023, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at West Brook High School. The entire community is encouraged to attend the free event. Click here for more information.
