Investigating Careers - Agriculture

 

Jennifer Byrd grew up in Dayton, Texas and lived in College Station and Lubbock before moving to Beaumont in 2002. She is married to Jason Byrd and has three children. Her daughter is currently attending the University of Vermont and her boys attend West Brook High School where they are involved in Football, Wrestling, Theatre, FFA and many academic activities. In addition to serving as the ag teacher on campus, Mrs. Byrd serves as an FFA advisor to the Beaumont FFA chapter which serves students at Vincent, Odom, West Brook, Beaumont United and the Taylor Career Center. She currently coaches the Greenhand Agricultural Skills Demonstration Team, Greenhand Speaking, and Entomology teams for FFA Students. She also is the Breeding Poultry advisor for the chapter. 

 

Prior to beginning teaching in 2019, Mrs. Byrd focused on her family and taught swim lessons and water safety to toddlers and adults and served the Southeast Texas community as a volunteer including the Junior League of Beaumont President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Main Street Market Business Manager and various other roles. She has also served on the Board of the Jefferson County Law Auxiliary as President and Treasurer, The Texas Lawyers Auxiliary, and is a founding member of the Beaumont’s Children Museum. She also played roller derby with the Spindletop Rollergirls for 7 years serving as their Co-Captain and Secretary.  

 

While in education Mrs. Byrd has been the recipient of the Beaumont Public School Foundation Education Grant and served on the Texas FFA Ryan Mott Scholarship Committee. She is looking forward to introducing your students to agriculture and the opportunities that are opened through the food and fiber industry.
